Nestle is a perfect example of a 'nobody wants me' dog, he has been overlooked in his shelter in Spain for 4 years now.
Why? Because he is a Podenco cross breed - a lowly breed in the eyes of Spanish culture, was probably owned by a hunter and discarded as many thousands are. During his time with the hunter he had his tail and ears 'cropped' and as you can see by the shape of his ears this must have been an awful experience for him. In spite of his background, Nestle is the most friendly, cheerful boy who loves attention and to play with everybody. He loves human company, however, he is submissive and easily frightened so needs gentle and positive handling when outside his comfort zone. Due to the cropping of his ears and tail, this boy cannot go to Switzerland, where such practices are illegal, nor is he likely to get any opportunity for adoption in Spain because of his breed. So, our solution for him - to sponsor his journey to the UK where he will be fostered, have the chance to meet people who will see him for the amazing boy that he is, fall in love with him and adopt him. MISSION COMPLETE: NESTLE'S JOURNEY TO THE UK WAS INDEED SPONSORED AND HE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME |
We dream of a place in Spain to where the oldest dogs in the shelters we work with can 'retire', where they will have sofas to lounge on, can have 'afternoon tea', play chess and draughts, reminisce with their mates about old times, sleep in a warm soft bed at night, have freedom from bars and cages and lots of love and cuddles.
